Professional

I have worked in the fitness industry since 1985, helping a wide range of clients ranging from those suffering from conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s syndrome, and AID’s through to international athletes. I currently run the gym at the highly prestigious Spa at Pennyhill Park, as well as working as a consultant for several companies within the industry. I am very active within the Supertraining Practice Group (named in honour of Dr Mel Siff); this is a group of trainers who meet every 2-3 months with a goal of furthering the knowledge of the group as a whole.

Competitive History

Over the years I have competed or participated in Judo, Aikido, and Bodybuilding. Currently I compete in Drug Free, unequipped Powerlifting, and I am the current British Squat Champion, as well as being World, and British Squat, and full Powerlifting Champion in my age group.

Passion

I have a passion for all strength sports and I freely admit that I’m a complete nerd about anything to do with health and fitness. This passion extends to travelling to the famous Westside Barbell Club in Columbus, Ohio to train with Louie Simmons for a couple of weeks a year. In my mind Louie is the world’s foremost expert on strength and conditioning, and I’m honoured to call him a friend.

Philosophy and Promise

I am often accused of being old school and I guess that I am but, I get results. I was a fat, slow kid at school that tried to avoid sports day; when I couldn’t avoid it I was sure to come last! From there I’ve gone on to become a British and World Champion, and I know I can help you achieve your goals too. I often tell my clients “keep showing up and do what I say and you’ll be amazed at what will happen”. My promise to you is that if you allow me to help, and you do what I say you will be amazed at the results. If you don’t want to work consistently hard, or you want to be entertained with your training then I suggest that you go elsewhere. The training element that we’re recommending on this site is for serious people only; if that’s not you then go and do your expensive stretching aka Pilates.

Fun Facts

Ever since I was a kid I wanted to be big and strong; but I was the fat, slow kid who always came last on sports-day. The one thing I did have going to me was that I was stubborn. This helped me to a) train hard, and b) seek out the best information. This quest for information, as well as allowing me to accumulate a vast library of books and DVDs, has also taken me to the Elite compound and Westside Barbell to train with the great Louie Simmons many times. This stubbornness while not making me the greatest lifter in history, indeed, far from it, has enabled me to win National and World titles, and at one time hold a National record. Not bad for a slow, fat kid.

Goals

I want to change the World! I want a World where you could walk into a gym anywhere in the World and know that the least you could expect to find is a good power rack, a descent barbell, and some heavy dumbbells. I also want to see an end to the silly stuff that people do in gyms, or at least have it recognised as such by the majority of gym users. Is all this too much to ask? Well at present it is, but we will do best to change things.
